Tanya Uyeda is the Associate Conservator for Japanese paintings at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston where she has worked for 19 years. She holds an M.A. in Conservation of Cultural Properties from the Tokyo University of the Arts and trained at the Handa Kyuseido Studio in Tokyo, Japan. Kyuseido is only one of a few elite studios authorized by the Government of Japan to treat designated cultural properties. Tanya’s interests include researching mounting styles for specific genres of Japanese paintings, and integrating Western techniques of paper and textile conservation with traditional methods of treating Asian paintings.
