Centro Nacional de Conservacion y Restauracion
Conservator
Santiago, Chile
I studied Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Objects in 2003 and started working at the National Center for Conservation and Restoration in 2007. I participated in several interesting projects, like the restoration of a series of colonial paintings on the life of Saint Teresa from Avila, that belonged to a cloister convent. I also worked at the restoration of an image of the Virgen del Carmen (Our Lady of Mt. Carmel), patron saint of Chile and the most important chilean sculpure, that was burnt on a fire attack. I am currently working at the Paintings Conservation Laboratory at CNCR, in paintings and frames, and since 2013 I am in charge of supervising the activities of the Lab, under the Chief Conservator and Coordinator. This supervision includes to check the reports of other conservator, logistics, treatments, administrative issues, photographic coordination, etc. When I was studying I did several internships and volunteering in places like the National Historic Museum and the Easter Island Museum, which showed me two aspects of the profession: to work with quite normal resources and also with very limited ones, and that has been a good excercise to learn to work in all situations. During these years working at CNCR, I have had the opportunity to restore paintings created by the most important chilean artists, as well as other latin american and also european ones. This has given me the chance to study and to learn from a certain artist and develop a sensibility towards his work. I have also had the chance to attend different courses and professional development activities carried on on its premises, which have been always enriching.
