Katrina Zacharias is a current Graduate Fellow in the Art Conservation Department at SUNY Buffalo State College. She is specializing in Objects conservation with an interest in Arms and Armor- firearms in particular. Katrina holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Missouri- Columbia in Art History with minors in Fine Arts and Chemistry. She participated in pre-program internships with Russell-Marti Conservation Services on a wide variety of outdoor sculpture projects as a technician including the conservation treatment of the Wichita State mosaic Personnages Oiseaux by Joan Miró. Katrina also interned at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Buffalo Bill Center of the West and Heugh-Edmondson Conservation Services, LLC. to round out her pre-program experience. During her time at SUNY Buffalo State College, Katrina has treated a variety of historical objects made of wood, steel, brass, silver, bronze, lacquer and textile. Her independent research study was working with Jonathan Thornton to recreate Theophilus’s casehardening instructions and analyze the samples to determine which casehardening process was occurring. She completed her first summer graduate internship at the Art Institute of Chicago where she helped in the conservation treatment and the reinstallation of the George F. Harding, Jr. Arms and Armor collection. For her third year graduate internship, she is interning at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto in the Metals Conservation Department working with Susan Stock. Part of her internship will include treating the Arms and Armor collection including a condition survey and treatment of the firearms collection. Katrina is a candidate to receive a Master of Arts and Certificate of Advanced Study in Art Conservation in the Fall of 2018.
