Laura Lipcsei is a Senior Conservator at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in Toronto. Prior to the ROM, Laura worked at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC. She holds a Master of Arts in Conservation from Queen’s University where she also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Greek and Roman Archaeology and Classics. Laura has a Master of Arts in Ancient Studies in Greek, Roman and Near Eastern Civilizations at the University of Toronto. Her diverse professional background includes mentoring conservation interns and teaching a introductory course on Collections and Conservation to students at the University of Toronto. Laura has excavated at archaeological sites throughout Italy, Greece, Turkey and Tunisia and was Director of the Conservation Laboratory at Kaman Kalehoyuk, Turkey in 2005. Laura is a Professional Associate of the AIC and has served on the AIC Nominating Committee for the past three years (2011-2014). She has presented papers and posters at the AIC and CAC annual conferences, and the Materials Research Society Symposium. Last year, she presented her conservation treatment on the ROM’s 17th Monumental Marble Chinese Guardian Lion sculptures at the annual CAC conference. She is a recipient of an FAIC Professional Development grant to participate in the International Course on Stone Conservation in Rome, Italy, a programme jointly 19th organized by ICCROM and the Getty Conservation Institute.
