Mary Broadway, [PA]
Art Institute of Chicago Associate Conservator of Prints and Drawings
Chicago, IL
Mary Broadway is Associate Conservator of Prints and Drawings at the Art Institute of Chicago. Since joining the Institute in 2014, she has studied and treated a range of works on paper from Old Master prints to Modern and Contemporary drawings. The primary focus of her research and technical analysis has been on the museum’s extensive collection of Paul Gauguin’s graphic works. Working with Senior Research Conservator Harriet Stratis, as well as scientists at the museum and in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Northwestern University, Ms. Broadway was able to contribute to a new understanding of Gauguin’s printing materials and techniques. Those findings are published in the Art Institute’s Online Scholarly Catalogue, Gauguin: Paintings, Sculpture, and Graphic Works at the Art Institute of Chicago, and in the catalog for the forthcoming exhibition, Paul Gauguin: Artist as Alchemist at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
