Gail Niinimaa has worked on textile conservation and collection management projects both in museums and private practice over the last 35 years. After graduating from the University of Alberta, she trained at the National Museum of Denmark, the Textile Conservation Centre at Hampton Court and Abegg-Stiftung, prior to setting up the Textile Conservation Lab at the Glenbow Museum in 1979. She left Glenbow in 2008 and worked in museum management at YouthLink Calgary - Police Interpretive Centre until the fall of 2013. In response to the Alberta floods in June 2013 she formalized her private Textile Conservation business and started cleaning flood-damaged textiles for the Museum of the Highwood as well as working with a variety of private clients. In 2016 together with Nils Sundstrom from Solid Woodwork Ltd. she completed a mannequin building project using CNC technology for the new National Music Centre in Calgary, AB. She currently maintains a private practice business which includes several museums and private clients.
