Jill Sterrett has been the Director of Collections at the San Francisco Museum of Modern since 2001. In this role, she oversees five allied departments in a museum structure that is designed to foster working sites of collaboration serving the museum’s programs and its collection. Jill has been on staff at SFMOMA for the last 25 years, first as Paper Conservator (1990-2000) and then Head of Conservation (2000-2001). She has also worked at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Library of Congress, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the National Library of Australia and the National Gallery of Victoria.

Jill graduated from Denison University with a B.A. in Chemistry and a B.A. in Art History, and she earned her M.A. in Art Conservation from the Cooperstown Graduate Program. She has published and taught on the subject of museums, conservation and contemporary art, including as a Fulbright scholar in Portugal.
