Margaret Skimina, Certified Safety Professional and Certified Environmental Trainer, 18 years as Associate Director for Environmental Health, Safety, and Fire Protection with the Art Institute of Chicago’s Office of Museum Facilities’ Department where she is responsible for developing environmental health and safety programs, providing input on the design and installation of fire protections systems, managing hazardous materials handling and disposal, conducting air quality assessments, evaluating employee and patron safety, conducting institutional safety training, assessing and managing risks, and conducting emergency drills. Formerly, Ms. Skimina served as the Institutional Associate Director for Environmental Health, Safety, and Fire Protection for the Museum and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she initiated and coordinated emergency hazardous material response, decontamination, and disposal, evaluated art materials and art projects for student use and public installation and conducted emergency drills throughout the Museum and School campus: two urban high-rise dormitories, 1.3 million square foot museum, 2 warehouses, and three high-rise academic/administrative buildings. Ms. Skimina is a graduate of Indiana University and is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and has published in the AIHA Synergist and is a contributor to Health and Safety for Museum Professionals (2012).
