Katrina Posner

Netherlands Institute for Conservation Art and Science
Amsterdams, Netherlands

Katrina Posner is an objects conservator with 20 years experience in the fine art of looking at, within and around art and artifacts. She has worked with museums in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Leiden and Amsterdam. Before moving with her family to Amsterdam in 2013, she was associate conservator for Decorative Arts and Sculpture at the J. Paul Getty Museum. While there she shared the responsibility of maintaining the museum’s indoor and outdoor three-dimensional collection and co-authored ‘Conserving Outdoor Sculpture: The Stark Collection at the Getty Center’ with her colleagues in 2010.

In 2014 she edited a book for the Rijksmuseum that showcases the conservation treatments undertaken for the museum’s reopening in 2013, in which technical essays about frames, furniture, enamels, jewelry and pastels are complimented by art historical contributions from the museum’s curators.

Katrina is keenly interested in helping the objects of our past and present tell their stories by melding their various components – of manufacture, history, cultural context, inevitable degradation, analysis and repair – into a cohesive tale to share.
