Maggie Barkovic

Williamstown Art Conservation Center
Assistant Paintings Conservator
Williamstown, MA
Maggie Barkovic graduated in July from The Courtauld Institute of Art in London with a Postgraduate Diploma in the Conservation of Easel Paintings. Originally from Virginia, she earned both a BA in Chemistry at Virginia Polytechnic Institute (2008) and an MA in Art History (2012) at George Mason University prior to moving abroad. Her practical internships included the Smithsonian Museum Conservation Institute, the Phillips Collection, Technische Universiteit Delft, and Atelier Marjan de Visser in the Netherlands. Maggie’s analysis and treatment of paintings at The Courtauld Institute has presented several opportunities for collaborative research: she has presented at the Courtauld Research Forum, the Gerry Hedley Student Research Conference, and the British Association of Picture Restorers. Her final year thesis focused on the exciting discovery of integrative solutions for treating water stained acrylic paintings. Following graduation she completed a post graduate internship at the Barnes Foundation (Philadelphia, PA) with a focus on technical analysis, looking at their Cezanne Collection. Maggie currently works at the Williamstown Art Conservation Center in Massachusetts, focusing on the treatment of modern and contemporary paintings.
