Marina Van Bos

Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage
Scientific Researcher
Brussels, Belgium
Marina Van Bos, PhD in Chemistry (UGent), is working in the laboratories of the KIK-IRPA since 1991. Her most important research activities are situated in two domains. Within the Leather, paper and parchment laboratory she is responsible for the identification of the different components of pictorial layers and/or inkt in manuscripts. Most of these analyses are non-destructive, although in some exceptional cases micro-samples are used as well. Some of the manuscripts she analysed are the Anjou Bible, the Chroniques de Hainaut or the miniatures in grisaille of the Chroniques et Conquestes de Charlemagne.
In the Monuments laboratory she performs analyses of murals and painted finishings of historic monuments (interior and exterior). Together with the Wall painting conservation studio and the Unit for research on finishings of historic buildings she studied amongst others the vault paintings in the Cathedral of our Lady in Antwerp, the mural in St Leonard's church in Zoutleeuw and the interior painting in the Stoclet Palace in Brussels. She participated in several European research projects such as ENVIART, MAP, LabsTECH or CHARISMA.
