Dr. Aaron Shugar is currently the Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Conservation Science in the Art Conservation Department, SUNY - Buffalo State. Dr. Shugar earned his M.Sc. from Sheffield University and his Ph.D. from University College London. Prior to working in Buffalo, he served as Co-Director of the Archaeometallurgical Laboratory at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA and was a visiting research scientist at the Smithsonian Museum Conservation Institute. He is an adjunct in the Buffalo State Chemistry department and at SUNY - University at Buffalo. Dr. Shugar served as the President of the Society for Archaeological Sciences and is currently an editor for Studies in Conservation, and an associate editor for STAR (Science and Technology of Archaeological Research). His research focuses on the analysis of inorganic archaeological and art materials. Dr. Shugar’s principle interests are in historic technologies and in the development of analytical instrumentation for use in art and archaeology.
