Sofia Borrego Alonso, PhD in Biological Sciences (2002) and MSc. in Microbiology (1985). Borrego works at the National Archives of Cuba and is a Professor at the Havana University. She has carried out preservation consultant work in Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela. She organizes and advises regarding preventive measures and conservation of documental patrimony at the Cuban Archives System. Her areas of research are: preventive conservation, biodeterioration of paper-based archival materials, aerobiology of indoor environments and the use of vegetable biocides for controlling biodegradation. Borrego directs both national and international preservation R &D + I Projects financed by Development Assistance Program for the Iberoamerican Archives. ADAI. She has been a member of the Biodeterioration of Historical and Cultural Heritage Program, a Project of the Thematic Networks between the Polytechnic University of Madrid, in Spain; the National Institute for Physicochemical Research Theoretical and Applied, in Argentina and the National Archives of the Republic of Cuba, from (2011-12). She has participated in many national and international conferences with more than 70 papers. She peer reviews national journals: Cuban Journal of Biological Sciences and the Bulletin of the National Archive and international journals: the International Biodeterioration and Biodegradation - Elsevier; the British Microbiology Research; the Microscopy and Microanalysis; the Microbial Ecology; the Access Journal of Environmental Research and the Journal of Advances in Biology and Biotechnology. In Cuba, she is a member of the following scientific societies: the Society of Microbiology, the Society of Chemistry and Society of Botany (Mycology Section) and the Scientific Council of the National Council of Cultural Heritage (NCCH).
