Johns Hopkins University
Graduate Research Assistant, Department of Physics and Astronomy
Baltimore, MD
Thomas O’Connor is a computational soft matter physicist interested in understanding the atomic scale mechanisms of material deformation and how they produce the mechanical properties we observe at the human scale. O’Connor is particularly interested in “soft” solids like polymer fibers, gels, and foams, where mechanical properties are strongly sensitive to molecular arrangement, temperature, and material history. He uses computational tools like molecular dynamics and coarse-graining to explore deformation mechanisms and develop quantitative mechanical models of soft materials. He is currently pursuing his PhD in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Johns Hopkins University.
